The Rookery Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve employs nearly 40 people in various capacities, including research, stewardship, education, coastal training, facilities and administration.

Many of the positions are salaried and benefited either through the Florida Department of Environmental Protection or Florida Gulf Coast University. Volunteer Specialist
Rookery Bay Reserve has a position vacancy for a Volunteer Specialist. Eligibility requirements have recently been revised for this full time position administered through a contract with Florida Gulf Coast University. The Volunteer Specialist will work collaboratively with other Rookery Bay staff to develop and maintain an active and successful volunteer program.
