Volunteer Citizen Support Organization
Established in 1987, the Friends of Rookery Bay (FORB) is a volunteer
citizen support organization that assists the Florida Department of Environmental
Protection in the management of the 110,000 - acre Rookery Bay National
Estuarine Research Reserve.
Informed Coastal Decisions
FORB provides community support and involvement that is designed to
contribute to informed coastal decisions through an integrated program of
coastal stewardship, research and education.
Environmental Learning Center
FORB is also instrumental in providing assistance with the Environmental Learning Center.
From maintaining inventory for the Palmetto Patch Nature Store to hosting fundraisers
and other events, FORB helps the Reserve spread its message of informed stewardship
throughout the community.
Making a Difference
Your membership fee will assist the Reserve in meeting the many challenges faced by coastal
resource managers. Critical tasks where funding is important include water quality research,
biological monitoring, control of invasive exotic plants and animals, community outreach activities
and educational programs for local schools. Your help can really make a difference!
