The Rookery Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve employs nearly 40 people in various capacities, including research, stewardship, education, coastal training, facilities and administration.

Many of the positions are salaried and benefited either through the Florida Department of Environmental Protection or Florida Gulf Coast University.
