Guy HarveyMarine wildlife artist Guy Harvey named Honorary Chairman of the 4th annual Batfish Bash for the Bay

"We are honored that Guy Harvey has joined us in this capacity and will attend our signature event," said David C. Gordley, Batfish Bash chairman and Friends of Rookery Bay board member. "People throughout southwest Florida are familiar with his artwork that depicts many species found in local waters and that celebrates fishing, boating, conservation and other recreational activities enjoyed by people in our community. It's a natural tie-in with the work done at Rookery Bay to protect our environment."

A resident of Grand Cayman, Harvey combines his artistic talents with his background as a marine biologist, diver, photographer and angler to create marine wildlife art with an unmatched authenticity and visual appeal.

Self-taught, Harvey's artistic roots can be traced back to his childhood in Jamaica, where he spent many hours fishing and diving with his father along the island's south coast. His obsession with the creatures of the sea inspired early drawings of the many different fish he observed.

The Batfish Bash features Olde Florida fare by Russell's Clambakes and Cookouts, dancing to the Raiford Starke Band, and live and silent auctions. The Patron Party on Feb. 28 at Hamilton Harbor Yacht Club includes cocktails, hors d'oeuvres and a private sunset cruise.

Proceeds from the Batfish Bash support youth science education, environmental research activities and community outreach programs provided by the 110,000-acre Rookery Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve.

Tickets to the Batfish Bash are $175.  Batfish Bash "save the date" postcard
