January 2009Hundreds Flock to Festival Several hundred participants braved cool morning temperatures to experience nature at its finest this weekend during the 5th annual SW Florida Birding & Wildlife festival. A few lucky field trip participants enjoyed views of a red cockaded woodpecker (a Threatened species), brown-headed nuthatch, short-tailed hawk and even a bobcat, while onsite activities welcomed visitors of all ages to experience Paige, Cracker and Bogey, rehabilitated birds from the Audubon Center for Birds of Prey. A highlight of the event was audio and video footage of active osprey nests, presented by keynote speaker Bob Montanaro from the Pelican Isle National Wildlife Refuge. |
